BOOOM

The enemy who managed to move past the Alliance’s Sky Unit continued to bomb the same empty ground over and over again and as he watched him from behind—

Kael felt sick.

After all, he knew he wasn’t seeing an empty ground, what he saw was people, he was bombing the same people over and over again.

Of course, if he thought about everything he saw on the battlefield, it wasn’t as surprising considering these enemies had bitten people to death and it wasn’t a fast death.

These people or... things to be more accurate because Kael could no longer see them as people, didn’t care about being efficient.

Neither did they care about the kill count, what they craved was blood. Now whether the source of that blood was one being or multiple, that was not of high importance.

So as the enemy rider continued to bomb the same place over and over again, Kael could tell what Vitaria was showing him, she was showing him death, destruction and blood, just like he wanted.

But at the same time, she must be leaving some ’survivors’, people who were wounded, could barely move, but still not dead.

And that was what the rider must be focused on, killing those who survived.

And while his next bombs worked, killing those who survived, Vitaria must have shown more survivors on the other side, repeating the cycle again and again and again.

Kael almost smiled at that.

Honestly, the moment he saw the enemy’s state, how mindless they were, he knew Vitaria was going to be a nightmare for them, but seeing it actually play out right in front of him was still amusing.

For now however, Kael focused on what was more important.

On the Sky Unit.

It didn’t matter if Vitaria took care of it, the fact of the matter was, an enemy rider still managed to move past the Unit, again.

And Kael did not want that.

That should not happen, not when the Sky Unit was supposed to be stronger than the Ground Unit and put up a better fight.

So as Kael looked, as Kael looked at his Sky Troops, he realised the problem.

They were exhausted.

Yes, already.

And they couldn’t be blamed either.

It was true that the ground troops had it worse, they were weaker and outnumbered, comparatively, the Sky Troops were relatively better, sure, they were somewhat weaker than the enemy, but they did outnumber them.

But because of that—

The responsibility to protect the ground troops came to the Sky Troops.

Now, they no longer had to only face the enemy Sky Unit, they were supposed to stop them from moving past them and attacking their families behind them, and they needed to constantly break formation to attack the enemy ground troops from above, dealing some level of damage.

Honestly, their relentless attacks were one of the biggest reasons why the ground troops managed to hold on till Kael appeared.

However, the Sky Unit had already pushed past their limits, they were exhausted, and the worst part?

They were facing an enemy that did not feel exhaustion the same way they did.

It was the same even when Igni joined them, yes, the Dragon’s presence eased the pressure, but...

It eased the pressure too much, it became counterproductive. The soldiers eased up, letting one of the enemies move past them.

That made Kael frown.

He thought about going up in the air to aid them, but the situation on the ground was far from stable, Imperia told him that Lavinia had passed out as well, so she wouldn’t be able to help.

No one else would do any good.

But then—

"RRROOOAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR!!!"

Just as Kael was thinking about a way out—

A loud, terrifying roar was heard.

Kael blinked, his eyes fell on Igni, who was now glaring at the soldiers who let the enemy move past.

"I excuse one mistake.

And one mistake only, Humans."

The Dragon’s words echoed throughout the battlefield.

The Velmourns who understood him flinched in terror, the other tribesmen who didn’t, they were no different.

For some reason, they understood the Dragon’s words as well.

The entire Sky Unit nodded at the same time, then—

"RRRROOOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRR!!"

Igni roared again.

The soldiers understood his roar and—

"KILL!!!"

They moved with a newfound motivation, one that came from fear of death.

Fwhooosh

Igni too, spit out flames that burned the enemies down to cinders, without giving them any time to recover or resist.

Then, from the corner of his eyes, the Dragon looked at his father and nodded.

Kael understood what he was saying.

’I’ll take care of this, Father.’

Kael smiled at him.

He nodded back, fully trusting his firstborn.

Igni nodded back as he began tackling other beasts, throwing their riders down, who either died on the spot or became crippled and wouldn’t be able to run, not with the tribesmen running around ’cleaning’ the place.

The battle continued, Igni burned the beasts, threw the riders, or sometimes, burned both the beasts and the riders.

The Alliance Army moved behind them, pressuring the mindless enemy who still couldn’t understand how the battle’s course had completely changed.

The rider who had been constantly bombing an empty ground was caught by the Shard Keepers’ ground attack, pulled down and killed as well.

And with Vitaria now free and ridiculously bored—

She decided to join the battle as well, manipulating a few of the strongest enemy beasts, making them turn against their own teammates.

Their mindless state only made it much easier.

Just like that, the battle continued, the Alliance soldiers were the ones taking control now, pushing the enemy back.

Especially the Sky Unit, they had always outnumbered the enemy, now with Igni to take care of the firepower, this became much easier.

The ground troops too, no longer dropped like flies, with more numbers on their side, they were now holding on, of course, the enemy was still pushing back, these people did not care what happened to others, they kept pushing for blood until they no longer could.

Even now, they still terrified many Alliance troops but then—

HHOOOOONKKKKKK

Horns were heard.

And the next instant—

Kael smiled.

The reinforcements were here.

The battle was as good as over.
